Marygrove College’s photography professor Robert Stewart is showcasing his new work at Forans Grand Trunk Pub in Downtown Detroit on Thursday, December 1 from 6 P.M. until 9 P.M. His evocative photographs portray local performance artist Satori Circus and portrays a number of impossible situations.
Stewart is clearly inspired by surrealism as seen in his photograph “The Rock” which has allusions to renowned Belgian surrealist René Magritte’s painting “Le Château des Pyrénées” (The Castle of the Pyrenees). “Possessions, do we posses them, or do they posses us? Some people, afraid to use their possessions make a temple to them. If you can’t put you feet on the sofa, the sofa posses you.” Robert Stewart
